Winter

…and there she stood upon my doorstep
in all her icy glory.

In the dark, betwixt my knees, sat my pillow
to calm the chill of night breeze.
The window was open,
just as my thoughts,
and I saw an owl swoop right by.
There and gone were my pestered inspirations.
But then I settled beneath my covers,
after closing my window and letting it nestle in the sill.
I pulled a quilted blanket up to my nose,
for quite a chill was out today,
prowling the streets like a snow leopard
to give my nostrils the same tint as a clown’s.
And when my eyes had all but just closed,
I heard a knock at my door.
I rose to peek out and saw that winter had arrived
and there she stood upon my doorstep
in all her icy glory.
