When it comes to bougie budget meals, CaféBudgét is here to scour your cupboards, freezer and fridge and come up with delicious hacks you may have not thought of. So…
Okay, I know it’s early. I couldn’t wait to post and I was up before the sun, so here it is before 11am 😉
You’re hungry for a snack, eh? And you’ve got nothing pre-made? Hmm, do you like cheese? Do you like cheese crackers? Do you like the crunchy bits on the edge of quesadillas? If so then you might like these 🙂
For this recipe, you will need:
- Cheese
- Coconut oil/butter
- Pan
- Stove
Pick literally any cheese you like. Shredded or sliced or stick. (Just not cream cheese or spray cheese 😅) In this recipe, I’ll be using Colby Jack.
Heat up your pan on the stove. I use a cast iron, I honestly have’t tried this on any other pan, but I am sure it will work. Give it a try!
Grease your pan enough to help you get the cheese off. (In my experience, I’ve never needed a lot. I’ve even done this on a bare pan with no greasing and it works just fine, they just usually end up a little crumpled or softer in the middle without grease–I use coconut oil).
Cut the cheese into small pieces; however big you want your chips to be. But make them thin.
Once the pan is hot, start placing them on. They will not expand much at all so don’t worry about that.
Watch your chips. Once the edges turn brown, for a cheesier chip, remove while the middle is still slightly melty but mostly dark orange, for a smokier chip, remove when the middle is no longer melty. Take them off and set them on a paper towel or plate.
Experiment with garnishes, or serve plain!

That’s literally it. Enjoy!
If you don’t get it perfect on the first try, keep experimenting! This recipe is fun to tailor and you will find what you like just by trying!
