When Hope Feels Like Fantasy

“We hold to hoaxes like wonderful, handsome men, and lovers who stay…”
–Loveless (Kanda Land)

Sometimes every beautiful thing seems false, doesn’t it? Every wonderful thing feels like a lie, on the most sorrowful days.

Missing someone certainly makes you feel like the whole world couldn’t fit an ounce of goodness in it.

Enjoy this snippet of V’s ponderings on the same:

“We hold to hoaxes like wonderful, handsome men, and lovers who stay, because these things—these dreams and false hopes—somehow give our existence enough painful yearning to painfully live for. An emotion; a passion; a thing we hope to live just one more day and see. And we do not. We never do.

But we keep on hurting, we keep on burdening ourselves with hopes that we know in our heads will never come true, for our hearts cannot live without hope; without something good to hold onto. And so we hold onto lies, because this is where hope seems to be.

Good things are figments of our imagination, aren’t they? Good things live in our dreams and in the better corners of our minds. They are the ones that come out on random days and give us something to wake for, something to live for, something to breathe and walk for that day.

They make us say ‘Aha!’ And we always have some kind of lightness or bounce to our step with that inspiration of possibility. ‘This thing can be real.’ We say. ‘This thing can be possible, surely!’ And thus, our heart smiles, and so do we. And we look a fool as our usually forlorn and hopeless faces are twisted into something of ecstasy. Something bright and blooming and beautiful, which is also a lie. For this flower of hope will die by tonight, or by tomorrow, and we will walk about forlorn, with a wilted face, once again.

We are watered only by our own false imaginations.

Still editing, my loves, and not quite halfway through. KL has 735 pages, which puts editing at being finished in maybe 5 years.

…Just kidding. Hopefully. 😅

For some reason, I always feel closer and simultaneously farther from the finish than I actually am.

#LifeofanEditor?

I don’t know. But I hope you enjoyed today’s Snippet from the Editing Table.

Happy St, Patrick’s Day from the editor and the author 🍀
