God’s Power Shown Through Our Weaknesses

Reflecting on the hope and miracles of Jesus until Easter Sunday.

Our weaknesses, God’s power, and finding Faith πŸŒΌπŸ‡πŸ’œ

As we reflect on Jesus’ ministry this week, it would be negligent to skip over this short passage that most people chalk down to just another of Jesus’ miracles.

The man born blind.

“Yeah, yeah, Jesus healed him. Next.”

But that wasn’t it! It was part of it, but that wasn’t the message.

The passage comes from John 9.

Verses 1-5

“As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’

Some neighbors who had seen him before he had been healed whispered about it and eventually brought the Pharisees to him, who still wanted to catch Jesus for blasphemy.

And the Pharisees asked him twice and his parents once what had happened. And the man’s final answer was this: (verses 32-34)

“‘Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.‘ They answered him, ‘You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?’ And they cast him out.”

We have heard that God has always had a thing for the people that everyone else counts as good-for-nothing, or those that everyone else leaves out. He was friends with bunch of those kinds of people.

And now, he again displays his miracles through a begging blind man.

Have you ever stopped to wonder if that impossible thing in your life or your fruitless efforts are actually just another way God will show his power to you and even through you?

Sometimes, we can forget how great God is until we see him at work in our own life. Maybe God will take the constant failures that you seem to face and make a way for you with His own hand. In such a way that you’ll be able to say, “Truly, it wasn’t because I lifted a finger. A door just opened.”

Sometimes we look at our roadblocks in life and chalk it down to us having done something wrong or God punishing us for some reason. When really, he might just be setting everything up to work an incredible miracle that you couldn’t believe until you saw it.

Will you believe him before you see his power though? Will you be found in faith when he returns?
